J.P.Pool (no first names, just initials) was born at Jones Prairie in Milam County on July 7, 1870. He attended Baylor University and earned his law degree at the University of Texas. He was admitted to the bar in 1891 and moved to Victoria two years later. That same year he married Jessie Caroline Dupree and in 1899 purchased the south half of Lot 4, Block 2 of Hall’s Addition where he and his wife would live the remainder of their lives.

J. P. Pool was appointed county judge of Victoria County in 1909 and served in that capacity until 1920. In 1928 he was elected judge of the Twenty-Fourth Judicial District and served until his death in 1940. Jessie Pool survived her husband by eighteen years, passing away next door in the home of her daughter, Clydine Pool Hooper.
