Harry & Zoe Corovinis House
804 North Craig Street
On February 5, 1929 bought the property at 804 N Craig. This was an ideal place to build a home and raise a family. Their next door neighbors at 802 North Craig were the Nick Bournias family, who had also moved to the area from Greece. Corovinis and his wife Zoe Stoilis Corovinis, entered into a contract with Anchor Lumber Yard for $4,845.00 on January 24, 1931. In 1932, the house at 804 North Craig was finished and the family moved in.
Harry purchased the Dixie Cafe at 112 Constitution Street in 1930. This was one of a series of restaurants and other businesses he would own and operate, including a theatre (the Venus), a miniature golf course, a 3-minute car wash, and a skating rink. There were many Greek families in Victoria when the Corovinis family arrived, including Nick and Helen Kandis Bournias. They owned the Waffle Shop across from De León Plaza. Jim and Athena Kandis owned the Candy Kitchen next to the National Bank on South Main.
The Dixie Cafe became the Corovinis family’s home away from home for the next twenty years. All of the family worked there during the war years when help was scarce. It was sold in 1950.
